I'm a bit of a newbie here and am a flight simulator enthusiest but by no means am a qualified pilot. This is mainly for entertainment. I have purchased a simulated aircraft by Wilco "Feel There" and it is the Legacy Learjet. This aircraft sort of works independent of the controls provided by Microsoft Flight Simulator and is therefore extremely realistic. Included is an FMS which requires an array of information to be loaded it it in order to take full advantage of the aircraft in-flight particular autopilot, approach, etc. In the example given in the manual, it simulates departing from EGLC-London City Airport and to arrive at LFMD-Cannes Mandelieu Airport. The trip being 615 nautical miles. Now they say that any chart will show what information has to be shown and I just discovered this site and the charts are out of this world! I know this site is for domestic U.S. only and that my example is overseas, but my question is...where do I look here to enter the information as shown in this example for these two airports (departing from London City and arriving into Cannes): EGLC SID LYD UG27 HAWKE UN615 XAMA UL612 RESMI UM728 LERGA UY30 AMFOU STAR LFMD. This is the information needed for departures and routing from what I understand. I just need to know where to look for this within these charts. As I said, I'm new to this and appreciate anyone's input. I have found a site on YouTube that explains how to enter this information into an FMS, but I need to know where to find this data. You aren't going to find any of that information on this site as it only includes navigation charts created by the FAA. All other charts, both commercial and those created by other countries' governments, are protected by copyright. You may, however, create your own US-based flights using the information provided by the low-altitude and high-altitude enroute charts on this site, along with the linked A/FD entries. I believe Dave's introductory video would be the best source of newbie info. Don't be afraid to play around with the site too!

Okay, I may not have explained myself too clearly...in my example, it reflects an overseas airport and I know that overseas airport charts are not located on this site...so my question is...say for example, I want to fly from KSEA to KDEN, can I use the charts on this site to find those codes to enter into my aircraft's FMS? Now, I'm talking strictly flight simulation and not real navigation. If the answer is yes, where am I looking? Whew...I'm confused. Thanks for your help!!

You can use the charts on this site to plan out the routes you would like to fly yourself, or you could use the website flightaware.com to help identify flight plans that are currently being flown by airlines. Then you can use those routes on the flight simulator FMS. For example KSEA-KDEN is currently being flown by Frontier flight 848 and their planned route of flight is: (SEA J90 MWH LKT OCS CHE) @ FL390 (39,000FT). This entire route can be followed entirely on this website using only high altitude IFR enroute charts. Most routes between large airports start with a SID or instrument departure procedure and end with a STAR or instrument arrival procedure. These are also included on flightaware.com's flight plan details and are listed at the beginning and end of the route. For example here is a flight plan for Virgin 236 from KSFO-KLAX: (PORTE3 AVE SADDE6) @ FL370. This route starts with the PORTE3 departure which can be found on this website under the airport section for San Francisco Airport and connects to the SADDE6 arrival via the AVE waypoint. The SADDE6 chart can be found under the airport section for Los Angeles International Airport. Finally, these departures and arrivals can be added to your flight plan on the FMS by using the APP/DEP page which can be found by pushing the appropriate button on the FMS CDU. There is still a lot to learn but this should help point you in the right direction.

I found it just by using it's 4 letter KSEA. Everything is there!

Take a look at high-altitude enroute chart for the PNW: http://skyvector.com/?ll=47.450038220552805,-122.31187273451111&chart=441&zoom=3 You'll see that it includes major airports, high-altitude navaids, and jet airway information with altitudes. You'll find the same information on the low-altitude enroute chart as well, they'll just be low-altitude navaids and victor airways instead. That should suffice for what's required for your FMS. As for terminal-area navigation, STARs and SIDs are available on the airport's A/FD page, which you can reach by right-clicking over the airport and clicking the airport's name in the resulting context menu. Here's the A/FD page for Sea-Tac: http://skyvector.com/airport/SEA/Seattle-Tacoma-International-Airport Between the two of those pages you should have everything you need to take full advantage of the navigation features of the FMS. On a personal note, how is the Wilco sim? I'm an FSX jockey myself and I've wanted to take the reins of an FMS-equipped plane ever since I saw someone's training videos of the PMDG 737 FMS.

The Wilco series aircraft are extremely realistic and and one really has to know their business in order to get it off the ground...heck, I haven't even been able to start the engines without cheating by starting them with my joystick. Have a look at this web site. http://www.fly.faa.gov/rmt/nfdc_preferred_routes_database.jsp If you are still having problems after that, I would highly suggest that you go pay a visit to the folks over at www.bostonvirtualatc.com, they have a first rate staff that may be able to help you. Additionaly, you have to be careful with those FMS systems. In the real world we update our every 30 days, the sim however is not accurate without payware help. Even if you happen to find the information it may do you little good if your FMS doesn't have the most up to date data. It is a common problem with payware add ons's. Further, you have to have a firm understanding of advanced flight planning techniques prior to attempting these. Once you get the hang of things, its not that difficult you just have to get around the learning curve.
