The Habersham County Airport, in operation since 1969, is a county-owned public airport located among the mountains of northeast Georgia. It is staffed from 8 a.m. until dusk each day. The newly constructed airport terminal building opened in January 2019. With state-of-the-art amenities, the building is roughly 3,000 square feet and features a break area, conference room, pilot’s lounge, and crew rest area. Jet A and 100 LL gasoline are available at the airport fuel farm and by truck. A person can purchase jet A fuel during regular business hours, and 100 LL gasoline can be purchased during and outside normal business hours via a card reader. Aircraft maintenance and repair services, as well as flight training, are available.
Runway 6/24 is a 5,500 feet long 100, feet wide paved Runway with a single-wheel load limit of 30,000 pounds MGTW. The Runway has medium-intensity runway edge lights. Runway 6 is oriented northeast, and Runway 24 is oriented southwest.
There are approximately 76 aircraft based on the field, including single-engine airplanes, multi-engine airplanes, and helicopters. In addition, air Methods Corporation’s air ambulance service is based out of the Habersham County Airport with the renovation of the former FBO building. The U.S. Forestry Service is also currently based out of the airport.
Recent years have seen several renovations to the Habersham County Airport, including the lengthening and resurfacing of the taxiway to extend the total 5,500 feet of the Runway. The former Runway Drive has also been relocated and resurfaced to become an extension of Airport Road. Proximity to the Airport Industrial Park is a convenience for businesses in the Industrial Park as some customers fly in to visit their facilities. The Habersham County Airport averages about 55 operations per day, with 60 percent of the business being local and about 40 percent being transient. Centrally located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the airport is the gateway to several popular destinations in north Georgia. It is the closest airport to Helen, Georgia, a town in northeast Georgia renowned for its Alpine village, Bavarian charm, and annual Oktoberfest celebration.
