lat long
Is there a way to entera lat long to find a waypoint
Interesting Question
That's an interesting question. You can create a "user waypoint" by entering coordinates as described here: http://skyvector.com/forum/direct-entry-gps-coordinates#comment-793 If you right-click on the map, the system will return a list of waypoints within a few nautical miles of where you clicked. So I guess that's a way to look up waypoints by lat/long, you just don't get to enter your query coordinates by keyboard, you have to use the mouse. -dg
Neat site! Just what I need.
Neat site! Just what I need. I need to plot a series of latitude/longitude points on the chart, and name them. I did follow your instructions, and put a pair in using the d-m format, but nothing showed up on the chart, and when I hit the button, a blue background was placed on my input data. I am amazed at what is available here - I grew up around compass and a watch, hoping to see the destination airport at the elapsed time, and not knowing what it would look like.
Which input field?
Did you put them in the "Go" box or the flight plan "Add" box. Watch the video of you're not sure what I mean. -dave
Flight plan add box. I will
Flight plan add box. I will try it in the "go" box. Hopefully I can name them? There are quite a few. Just tried it in the "go" box. Same thing - the input is put inside a blue background and nothing appears on the chart. --------- later - I got it. Just do not know how to number them on the chart. Very nice. ------------------------- Much later - I just entered 15 lat/long coordinates. They are still in my flight plan, in what I think are proper format: 32d55.192n117d15.453 space 14 more like that. TThe route ignores them, and I get no diagnostic. I did put one in last night, and it worked ok. Maybe I need a bulletproof format - I have all coordinates in any combination of degrees minutes seconds or degrees and fractions, etc.
Help on formatting
You probably need to indicate west or use negative numbers for longitude. This post has more details on formatting: http://skyvector.com/forum/entering-gps-latlon#comment-1087
Dave - thank you for the
Dave - thank you for the help. I just put N and W in there, and it took it. I will try one with lower case. The waypoint I inserted is perfect. Now I just need to figure out how to name the waypoints. What a spectacular tool! thank you!
lat long

  Thanks it works, i need t practice, if you get it wrong it seems to guess, at a previous co-ord, a 44 mile uk trip in a cessna gave me a  track/dist to some distant shore;

 be nice if i really went there instead
