More detailed flight plans

This question has probably been asked, but I'm going to raise it again.

For the VFR pilot that wants to do some cross country trianing it would be nice if we could input winds aloft for each lef of the flight plan. Also, instead of supplying the ground speed, the pilot should be able to enter in the true airspeed that he calculated based on flight level and tempuratue. Then once the winds are input, the values of magnetic heading and groundspeed are calculated for each leg.

So here is the flow:

1. Pilot must refer to POH for calibrated airspeed and calculate True airspeed using presure altitude and curise level air tempurature.

2. Pilot must retrieve winds aloft for each leg of the flight (from published data) and enter into flight plan.

3. Skyvector flight plan calculates ground speed as well as true and magnetic headings in addition to the existing time and distance calculations.

As an additional bonus, allow pilot to enter in fuel burn/hour (based on POH performance charts) and calculate fuel used for each leg. Also the climb phase should be added to the start of the flight plan.

I have a spreadsheet that can be shared with developers to demonstrate how to do this works. I'm happy to help.

Why not just use DUAT(S)?

DUAT(S) does all this pretty automatically. Why not just use that?

Perhaps, but can you create

Perhaps, but can you create custom waypoints on the map like you can in skyvector?

Yes, you can in Fltplan.com.

Yes, you can in Fltplan.com. Just open the map, (map opens on separate window) decide what custom waypoint you want to add to your flight plan and go back to flight plan page and add that point to "own route". Not quite as simple as skyvector but easy none the less.

Does skyvector have a way of

Does skyvector have a way of showing cumulative mileage, ie at each waypoint total the mileage covered to reach that waypoint? would be useful for planing fuel stops and that sort of thing.

No, skyvector shows NM

No, skyvector shows NM between waypoints only. You will have to do the math. But it dosen't hurt to ask for that addition to the program. If it were in the flight plan as NM from WP to WP and total NM traveled up to that waypoint as well as NM to remaining that would be nice. Contact skyvector@gmail.com to ask.
