Showing more than one sectional at a time (when crossing state ... or SECTIONAL lines) How to???
I live in Colorado and use the Denver sectional. However, when I fly south from Durango toward NM, which is just a few miles, I am suddenly into the Albuquerque sectional. As I flight plan on Skyvector I can see only one sectional at a time. Is there some way to display two or more? I apologize if this is a stupid question but I am new to Sky Vector and just can't figure it out. Thanks for any help you may offer. Commander Pete
It's a good question
First off, the simple answer is No. You cannot display more than one chart at a time. Sectionals are funny things. Each one is projected into a Lambert Conformal Conic (LCC) projection with a centrally optimized Meridian and standard parallels that are ideal for the chart's middle latitude. This produces a map that is very highly conformal - meaning that headings and distances are highly accurate at short ranges. This comes at the expense of not being a good projection for large, continent or world-sized maps. A common approach to this problem is to reproject or "warp" the maps into cylindrical projection. Cylindrical projections like Mercator have the advantage of North always being straight up. This makes stitching together easy. But it seriously degrades the ability of the maps to be used in navigation. Scale becomes meaningless, Greenland becomes as big as Africa. Directions start out okay but loose accuracy fast. The subject of including a re-projected, stitched together seamless chart on SkyVector has been hotly debated. It is something we intend to do, but we will continue to offer the charts in their original undistorted form. I hope this helps. In your particular case, you may want to switch to the CG-19 WAC. WAC charts are the official FAA answer to the "my charts are too small" problem. Have fun up there! -Dave
Dave - Is there an option to display and flight plan on WAC charts on SkyVector? When I hover over the Charts symbol I don't see it. Thanks, Dale

To display WAC charts you
To display WAC charts you must choose them from the buttons in the upper-right corner of the chart viewer. There you will find buttons to take you to every chart available in the area you're viewing, including sectionals, TACs, enroutes, and WACs.
To display WAC charts?
The buttons in the upper-right corner of the chart viewer in my browser only show Sectional, TAC, Helicoptor, Enroute High, Enroute Low, and IFR Area. I don't see a button for WACs. Am I looking in the wrong place?
I have the same problem. My
I have the same problem. My solution is to create a flightplan from my home base to my destination then in order to easily switch between the sectionals I add a waypoint just over the border. That way I can switch between the two easily by just clicking on the waypoints in the flightplan. It doesnt let you put both on the screen at the same time but its better than nothing.

Showing more than one sectional at a time
Although you can't see more than one chart at a time, it is easy to toggle between charts. If in Durango, just push the chart up till the blank area of the would-be Albuquerque shows. Mouse into that area & the "Albuquerque" option appears in the "chart bar". Select it & you're on the Albuquerque chart. You can easily toggle back & forth between charts that way.
