Straight in approaches are an awful thought on Catalina because of the one of a kind sort of the air terminal. Pilots in the standard example are not acquainted with search for movement entering straight in. Robert is right. Glad I flew over two harbors and then made a wide left turn to enter the downwind on the 45 for right traffic 22. I DO BELIEVE it is safer to have a long final as that helps establish and stabalize. Just gotta watch altitude.
