Great airport! Friendly folks! Filled up, got a courtsey car. Got a bite. Came back. Enjoyed every minute of the volunteer hospitality.

Fun little airport right next to downtown Knoxville.  Taking off from here and heading west next to the city at sunrise was spectacular! The people I interacted with were all friendly and helpful.  I would highly suggest stopping by if you are in the area.

A couple of notes for anyone visiting this airport for the first time.

  • The CTAF that they are using is 126.600.  It was stated in a remark at the end of the AWOS weather data.  This CTAF was not listed in any source that I used to look it up, but that was definitely the frequency that everyone was using for communicating at this airport.
  • If you plan on departing early in the morning, make sure to get the gate code prior to departing the airport.  There is a locked gate at the entrance to the bridge and you need the code to get in outside business hours.  They did not open the gate until 0700 and I was trying to depart at 0600.
  • There was a high volume of student traffic at this airport.  No issue at all, just be ready for a busy pattern.
