Hickory Naval Air Museum
The airport terminal building has been converted to a full museum to US Naval Aviation (they are naval aviators you know). Great displays inside and the outside includes the P-3 Orion and EA-6B. I got to work a high school summer job at NAS Cubi Point and the Cubi ramp was full of these flying machines so some nostalgia from 1980.
There is a tower here at Hickory and the controller is pretty lonely so I got a lot of information during the taxi around. The Terminal and the self-serve are on one side and the FBO is now on the other side of the runway. Also, the cross-wind runway has recently been closed forever which is sad as someone that was landing as I taxied out smoked his mains while landing in the heavy duty crosswind. Even the controller commented on the smoke coming from the landing gear. Might need to re-think that runway closure.
