Flew into Sleigman, a charming historic town along Route 66! The airport is a real gem — the runway, taxiways, ramp, and even the restrooms look brand new. It’s one of the nicest small airports I’ve landed at. Just be sure to plan ahead — no fuel is available here.
A quick 15–20 minute walk from the airport takes you to the Roadkill Cafe & O.K. Saloon, or the Westside Lelo’s Restaurant, which are right across the street from each other. We grabbed a bite at Westside Lelo’s and were impressed. Don’t miss their world-famous carrot cake — it’s the perfect after-meal treat!
If you're staying the night, we stayed at the Aztec Motel, located right in the heart of town on Route 66. The Aztec Motel, just a mile from the airport and offers shuttle service to get you there and back. Stepping into the motel feels like you’ve been transported back in time on a classic Route 66 road trip. The room was spotless, with vintage decor that brought the past to life.
The owner, Sebastian, was super friendly and helpful, giving us a personal tour of the original motel lobby (A museum of its own), and sharing fascinating stories about the motel’s history. They even include a yummy breakfast box to enjoy with your morning coffee. It was a truly memorable experience — the kind that makes you want to keep flying down Route 66!
